Green roof of
Catalyse Urbaine

Thanks to its dual expertise in architecture and landscape architecture, Catalyse Urbaine stands out for its knowledge in the design and implementation of green roofs and living walls.

The agency’s planted roof, one of the first green roofs constructed in Quebec on a heritage building, was featured in a televised documentary on La Vie en Vert (Télé-Québec) and appeared on the cover of Constructo magazine.

The principle of a green roof involves covering a flat or low-slope roof with soil and plants. Like a sponge, the green roof retains water: part is used by the plants, part evaporates, and the remainder is slowly drained through pipes, promoting proper runoff.

Green roofs increase the amount of natural space available, helping to recreate ecological networks and corridors that facilitate the movement of animal and plant species within the city. Additionally, adding a green roof provides extra outdoor space for occupants, reduces ambient temperature, and increases oxygen in the air.
